In commemoration of World Environment Day 2026, the Advocacy for Sustainable Livelihood Foundation (ASLF), through its Waste to Wealth Initiative, carried out an advocacy and sensitization visit to Federal Government College, Enugu, aimed at promoting environmental responsibility and sustainable waste management among students.
Empowering Students Through Environmental Education
The students were enlightened on the importance of waste sorting, proper waste disposal, recycling, upcycling, and the economic opportunities embedded in waste management. The session emphasized that waste, when properly managed, can become a valuable resource capable of creating livelihoods, protecting the environment, and fostering sustainable development. Through interactive discussions and practical demonstrations, students learned how everyday actions contribute to a cleaner and healthier planet.
Inspiring the Next Generation of Environmental Champions
The response from the students was overwhelmingly positive. Inspired by the initiative, they affirmed their commitment to championing environmental sustainability by establishing an Environmental Club within the school. The club will serve as a platform to drive environmental awareness and promote positive behavioural change among students, creating a ripple effect that extends from the school into the wider community.
Practical Support for Waste Management
As part of ASLF's commitment to practical action, waste bins were donated to the school to facilitate waste sorting at source and encourage the adoption of proper waste management practices within the school environment. This gesture is expected to strengthen the culture of waste segregation and reinforce the lessons shared during the sensitization programme. By providing the necessary infrastructure, ASLF ensures that the message of environmental responsibility translates into tangible action.
